MOVIE.

What's your favorite movie? Why?DEFINITELY While You Were Sleeping. 'A story about love at second sight.' It is without a doubt the best romantic comedy for me, and I don't really get why it's so unappreciated today.
I was probably eight or nine years old when I first watched this film, and I absolutely adored it. It was funny, and romantic - not in the way that most romantic comedies are done today. I always had a thing for the 'second guy' in a drama or a movie, and that was what Bill Pullman was in this film - the secondary guy, Jack, who eventually fell in love with his unconscious brother's "pretend" fiance, Lucy (Sandra Bullock), and who finally got her in the end.
Truthfully, I'm a bit of a sucker for romantic movies - be it The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, or You've Got Mail, I love them all, but this one just stands out. It was so simple. The storyline was probably something anyone could have come up with, but I loved it anyway, probably for its lack of complexity or for the fact that I could watch this movie anytime, and it would still make me smile.
The story was wholesome, too, especially because it featured such a tight-knit and happy family; they were so tangible as characters, and while watching the movie, I felt as if I really did know them as real people. Usually, we don't see the family of the characters involved in the love story, but this was different. Jack's family was probably part of the huge bulk that made this story so good - heck, probably one of the best parts of this film was when Jack proposed with the rest of his family (his grandmother included) cheering him on behind him. And Lucy? Any girl would probably be able to relate to her: she was the average girl leading this routine life who luckily found her fairytale ending with the guy she fell in love with.
So yeah. While You Were Sleeping is simple and touching in its own little ways. I love all the characters, from Lucy the lonely girl working at the train station, to the nurse who mistook her as the fiance of a patient in a coma. After every time that I watch this movie, I find myself wrapped up in a bubble of warmth and I swear I always love it a bit more. For me, it's the ultimate classic. :)
